Pinta PArC, Lima Perú, presented its 10th edition from April 19th to 24th at Casa Prado. I participated with 2 galleries (Rubber Stamp Art Projects Miami and Imaginario Gallery Buenos Aires)
This series was born from my search and motivation to find different languages within my work. “TRAVEL DIARIES” began as a continuation of my “CACTI” series. I incorporated select nature photographs with my own imagery (personal and intimate language). I found it interesting to search for communication between the photographs and the lyrical / organic language that always characterizes my work. Each scene I have captured has emerged from my travel experiences and different landscapes that I have visited. Through these landscapes, I have also found consonance with the natural world, which is essential for my creative process.
My creation comes from the subconscious; from my dream world and psychic automatism. This series is the union of my dream world with the real world. My work represents a sandbox of my subconscious mind and inner emotions. In this series, I have mixed that inner world with the outer world (nature). Through this mix, I am able to reevaluate my own environment, looking more outwards and moving away from previous references. This resulted in a new discourse and appearance in comparison to my previous work, a more intimate nuance of my characters now in a natural environment.
The selected photographs served as a background for the scenario that I put together in each one of them. I structured the pieces as a diptych to create the sensation of a "cinematic sequence.” Ideally, to make you feel as if you are looking at the landscape from the window of a train, with festive and crowded scenes, where the quixotic biomorphs seem to be caught up in a lively celebration. Through this process, I also am able to portray an interesting contradiction between what happens in the background (desolate landscapes), and the figure in front (celebration of life.)
My process consists of combining abstract and semi-abstract forms, starting with automatic drawing and ending with acrylic paint on digital print. Essentially, the biomorphic shapes and chromatic explorations are all thoughts and metaphors that I project into the natural word. But, for me, there is also a very real connection between the things that happen in our personal lives and what nature can teach us about them.
